Almonds at Sweets Gone RawOne of nature’s most nutritious nuts, almonds top the charts in terms of mineral content, protein, and monounsaturated fats. When organic, almonds are a smart food to choose for instant fuel, for an easy snack, or to eat atop a salad or yogurt. The following lists a few of the many health benefits of almonds:

Mineral and Nutrient-dense
One of the most notable facts about almonds is that they are incredibly nutrient and mineral-dense. In fact, almonds contain:

7.62 grams of protein per quarter cup;
Manganese;
Copper;
Potassium;
Vitamin E;
Monounsaturated fats;
Magnesium;
Iron; and
Calcium.

As such, a handful of almonds can provide your body with much-needed nourishment.

Reduced Cardiovascular Risk
Another health benefit of almonds is that consumption of almonds has been linked to a reduced risk of cardiovascular complications. In one study, researchers concluded that eating these nuts at least four times per week reduced the risk of coronary heart disease by a whopping 37 percent. In general, consumption of almonds is associated with lower lipid levels, decreased cholesterol levels, and improved heart health.

Improved Blood Sugar Levels
Increased rates of diabetes in the U.S. are a growing health and economic concern. And while the research regarding consumption of almonds and reduced risk of diabetes is less definitive than is the research between almonds and heart disease, multiple studies surmise that eating almonds can help to regulate blood sugar levels. One study showed that eating almonds—as opposed to rice, potatoes, or bread—decreased participants’ blood sugar and insulin levels.
